Does that mean the coils from the middle and top are overworking to correct the under working bottom coils? Do you think the bottom coils are not working or could there be something else going on? And would adjusting the drop switch help with the under firing problem? The part I'm worried about is trying to find out why the bottom of the kiln didn't get up to temperature whereas the middle did, even though the overall firing is considered under fired. The only solution I can think of for the first problem is to follow the manual's steps on how to adjust the switch so it doesn't drop early. I'm not quite sure how to fix this problem. The cones on the middle shelf bent perfectly, but the small cone came out under fired and the total firing only lasted 3.5 hours. The problem started when I opened my kiln and noticed the witness cones didn't bend enough on the bottom shelf.

I'll add a photo of the control box here if anyone is confused about how my kiln works (ignore the Thumbwheel, I finally got that part figured out). Because this was my first test firing I set the estimated firing time to 8 hours (I know, too much time for a small kiln). I fired at cone 06, with witness cones ranging from 07 to 04, as well as putting the Speed control knob at normal speed. So I have a Cress LT-3K kiln that I fired for the first time, but the witness cones didn't bend correctly and the small cone under fired.
